Peasant Life

We journeyed from Paris to Pau by bus stopping at beautiful and unique destinations. We explored many castles and elaborate gardens. It all made me feel very small, which felt nice. I found that the further away from the hustle and bustle of Paris we traveled, the more relaxed and like myself I became. I don't think it's because I hated the city, I just prefer open spaces.
So this is what traveling in style looks like. I tried really hard to find large advertisement in Helvetica to take a photo next to but was unsuccessful.

Do As The Parisians Do

Salut everyone! ChewZeFAT is now dressed and written in France. My next few posts will be from my week in Paris and then they will be taking place in my new home of Pau, which is in the south of France. After studying the Parisians for about a day and a half I had them figured out and put this ensemble together. It was a huge success and turned the heads of many Frenchmen. The key is to never smile.

Mad Dog

Living in a small town with zero style is tough. Dear followers, if you haven't visited Carson City, Nevada before, don't. Unless of course you wear white capri pants year round and date your cousin.
I ran errands with my mother today and people were staring at me like I was goddamn Hitler or something. Hey, they're leggings and platforms, get a grip! Good thing I leave for France in 8 days.

Hi-Lo

With a little more than two weeks left in the country, I've been spending a good amount of time with my mother while I can. We slept in, drank milkshakes with our brunch, spent some dough and had an unhealthy dinner. I received A LOT of compliments on this outfit today.

Dog Days

My yearly summer fever has arrived. I've officially shut myself in and forced my fever-induced, dizzied brain to read and reread all of the books I've borrowed from treasured friends over the past year. I'm terrible about reading multiple covers at the same time which results in half-read, stolen books hidden in drawers and at the bottom of closets. So the good news is, anyone who I've borrowed a book from will be reunited with their forgotten treasure soon.
I managed to throw together this half-hearted ensemble to run errands with my mom yesterday. Nothing says, "I'm well" like a sheer blouse and a blank stare.
Oh, and these are the things I like:

Remembering Shelly

I try to keep things lighthearted and cute here at ChewZeFAT. With that being said, the name of the blog gives me complete freedom to talk about anything. Plus, It's my blog so I can do whatever the hell I want.
Today would have been my wonderful Aunt Shelly's 52nd birthday. While I know I should be celebrating her life today, I always have a hard time doing so because it was stolen from her. Today's post is in her honor. She was kind, quirky and beautiful. If she were here today we would have put flowers in our hair, danced barefoot in the grass and laughed until we cried. So here's to you, Shelly.

Shoe Farmer

I think my recent Jeffrey Campbell splurges and straw hat really say all that's needed to justify the title of this post but it wasn't until I was packing all my things to move today that I realized how addicted to shoes I really am. Three boxes later, they are safe and sound. Some people have drug addictions, I have shoes.
Life is so crazy busy at the moment. After a week in Yosemite, I went to San Francisco to get my visa Monday, worked Tuesday and moved all day today. Sometimes life can be a little impatient. It's important to appreciate the little things like vintage hats and yummy mint pants.

Post Vacation Blues

I've spent over 24 hours driving, riding and sleeping in moving vehicles this week. All the dead legs and horrific rest-stops were well worth it though. A week camping and cabin-ing in Yosemite has cured my summer blues; however, post vacation blues have already set in. My all black ensemble is to mourn the end of a very stellar week.

In With The Old

Whoever said, "out with the old, in with the new" was a window licker. My life would be so boring without my favorite vintage finds, like this hat. I'd rather change the saying to "in with the old, new and whatever other weird shit you find."
So here's today's outfit. We've been through a lot already today - new tires, a car wash, preparing for a Yosemite camping trip, the beach, a vegetarian pizza sandwich, new shoes and the day is hardly over. We're pooped! (my outfit and I)
I've been doing really well saving money for France. Well, that was until I discovered this kitty cat blouse and Jeffrey Campbell Lita's. Oh well, there's always tomorrow.

Cakes & Kittens

My favorite person in the whole wide world invited me over for breakfast today. While she was distracted making coffee treats, I threw a couple scoops of batter down in an attempt to sweeten her plate. Later, we discovered this kitten mailbox while scouring the neighborhood for a place to snap some photos.

On Vacation

Okay, so I'm not really on vacation. Quite the opposite in fact. Well, that's a lie too. I don't have a very demanding work schedule and I take a lot of naps. I've just really been enjoying post-graduate life with my best friends the past few days. I really feel like I'm on an unforgettable vacation. We've been to the beach, made an outrageously dangerous bonfire, cruised around in my tiny VW, toasted peanut butter s'mores, made mojitos, watched sporting matches and just enjoyed each others company. I started a new job today. I'm still a legal secretary but I'm now waiting tables to earn some extra France money.
I know that it looks like I'm wearing some sort of hideous cowgirl hat in this photo but I assure you it's actually a darling floppy beach hat.

More Issues Than Vogue

I've been spending a nice chunk of time in Carson City lately with my family. The west side is full of character and charming places to snap photos. It's a shame the rest of Carson sucks ass.

Dinner With Ali Strange

I had a fun and tasty early dinner with my dear friend Ali Strange tonight. We noshed on hotdogs, vegan and beef, respectively, and chatted about life. Oh and my little VW is running again!

Fortuitously I met this incredible lady at Coachella a couple years ago. She was vibrant, sassy, creative, crazy stylish and I wanted to know everything about her instantly. Unfortunately she lived in LA at the time and our magical weekend together ended abruptly and we were forced to connect via Facebook. Lucky for me the all mighty Ali Strange moved to Reno last year!
Ali just launched her own swimsuit line - Ali Strange Bikinis. She is a freaking wizard in the swim world. You can follow her here on Facebook. Her official website will be up and running next week. You can order from her Facebook now or wait until the full site is up and running. I'll post the link to her new website as soon as it's available. I encourage you all to order a custom, one-of-a-kind Ali Strange bikini!  She is a featured "RAW artist" for the Reno area and will be putting on a fashion show. I'm honored she asked me to help out backstage dotting i's and crossing t's. It's going to be a bitchin' time. Don't wait to buy tickets, as the price will increase starting Monday. Gold Seam Vintage

I had the pleasure of meeting a charming new small business owner yesterday afternoon. Her name is Megan "Megs" Matthers and she is the face behind Gold Seam Vintage located inside the NeverEnder in the midtown area of Reno. Gold Seam is a vintage lovers paradise. There is truly something for everyone - incredible vintage dresses, skirts, shorts, blouses, shoes, boots, sunglasses and scarves. In addition to the one-of-a-kind vintage clothing, she has an assortment of odds and ends such as typewriters, suitcases, gloves, teapots, cameras, nicknacks and darling potted plants.
I scored an incredible high collared, sleeveless, pleated top and the perfect red dress which i'm wearing as I type this. My adorable friend Michelle walked out in an entirely different outfit then she arrived in.
Megs carefully scoured the Reno area for years collecting and gathering all of these unique treasures. With only 24 years of life under her belt, she is truly an inspiration. I cannot wait to see the success of this shop and where she goes from here.
She has a ton of stock that will go fast so come in early and often to see what's new. Her shop is absolutely adorable. These iPhone photos don't do the clothing racks justice due to space/lighting/camera issues so I encourage you to go in and see for yourself.
